MINECOST ACTIVITY FOR JANUARY
==============================

New Models

Rochester

Silver Cost Curves
------------------------
The addition of Rochester to the download list brings our coverage of
western world silver production to over 60%. We have therefore created
a set of silver cost curves for years 1998 to 2003. These are
available from the cost curves page.

Updated Models
---------------------
We are now in the process of updating all models for year 2002 input
costs, prices and exchange rates. Where available, the production data
is also being updated.

The following models have been updated as above and are now on the
minecost website.

If you have downloaded any of these models in the past three months,
you are entitled to download the revised model at no additional charge.

Revised production data for these mines are available from the
minecost database.

Website Access
--------------------
In recent months people using Norton Internet Security have had
problems downloading files from the minecost website. This was caused
by an incompatibility between NIS and some of the scripts used on
minecost.com. The scripts have been replaced and should cause no
further problems.

A similar and growing problem is the rejection of XXXXX.EXE files by
some corporate firewalls. We have been using the XXXX.EXE zipped file
format to create self-expanding compressed files that do not require
users to have any specific unzip programs on their machines. But with
the proliferation of viruses, worms and other nasties we have decided
to phase out the use of XXXXX.EXE compressed files. So all files
created after 1 January 2003 are now in XXXXX.ZIP format and will
require users to have Winzip or its equivalent installed on their
computers. All downloadable files on minecost.com will progressively
change from .EXE to .ZIP format.
