Downloading Mine Models

Download privileges are only available to registered users. You must register first. Registration is free. There are no time-based access or user charges.

Registration gives you download privileges and the opportunity to contribute mine cost data which earns you download credits. Credits give free access to the mine cost models. If you can demonstrate that there are errors in the models, we credit you for the cost of the model download.

Users who have not earned credits must pay for each download. Editable models where you can change most of the operating assumptions are priced at $500-$700, while non-editable, no-formulas versions of the models cost between $280 and $390 each. This approach means that mine analysts who are able to share useful information with other site members and who can help us to improve the accuracy of the models end up having very low cost or even free access to the site.

World Mine Data Exchange users receive email notification of new mines as they are added to the site. Users are also advised of significant changes or corrections to existing mine models that result from information contributions.

Once your registration application has been accepted, we will email you with a password that gives you immediate site privileges.

Getting the Most out of the Website

You can check the production details and assumptions for the model you are interested in by downloading a production spreadsheet from the free database. Just follow the "Production Data" link on the menu bar at the bottom of the page. You can also get background information and descriptions of mines and profiles of mining companies via the "Links" option on the menu bar.

You can then preview a model by clicking on the mine name on the download list which is accessed by following the "Download Models" link on the menu bar. This displays a page showing the size of the Excel file(s) containing the model, the size of the zipped file containing the Excel file(s), and the date the model was last updated. This page also shows the terms and conditions attached to model downloads.

Don't forget that the models are delivered as compressed files which need to be expanded to create the Excel spreadsheet. Just un-zip the file after you have downloaded it. If you attempt to open the file in Excel before you have expanded it, it will not work. You must unzip the file first!

If you are more interested in industry-wide costs rather than individual mine cost models, you can download an industry cost curve. These show summary cost and production data for all the mines we have modelled in each industry, together with a graphical presentation of industry cumulative cash costs. At present we have industry cost curves for copper, lead, zinc, nickel, silver, molybdenum and iron ore. The cost curve link is at the top of the mines download list.

Remember that we are always ready to help. If you have any questions or problems, just click on the "Contact us" link on the menu bar at the bottom of any page. Or check the list of Frequently Asked Questions by selecting "FAQ" link on the menu bar.
